The Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) has just released a new survey that included a question regarding our $9 billion 2016 State School Bond. The survey was conducted with slightly more than 1,700 adults and has a +/- 3.7% with a 95% confidence level. This means that if 63% of all adults in the survey support the bond then there is a very high probability that if all 17 million registered to vote adults were sampled the results would be in a band between 66.7 % on the high side and 59.3% on the low side of the band. These would be very good numbers.
The PPIC poll results for all surveyed adults (slightly more than 1,700) was 63% believe state bond funding for K-12 and community colleges is very important. Very important is usually interpreted to mean they will support the proposition. When likely voters only are asked the question the percent drops to 55%. This means for all likely voters the band would be between 58.7% and 51.3%. These also are good numbers because we only need 50% plus one voter to pass.
By asking the question about the bond, the survey informed the 1,700 people that there would be a bond on the ballot. This is a positive step BUT there probably will be more than 12,000,000 people voting in November 2016 on the $9 billion Kindergarten Through Community College Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 2016. We need to inform the 12,000,000 voters that there will be a State School Bond on the ballot and urge a “YES” vote.
