Today Speaker of the Assembly Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) announced committee chairmanships.  Of particular interest to the education community, Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D-Long Beach) was appointed as chair of the Assembly Education Committee (replaces Assemblymember Joan Buchanan who was termed out), and Assemblymember Kevin McCarthy (D-Sacramento) was appointed as the chair of Assembly Budget Subcommittee No. 1 on Education (replaces Assemblymember Shirley Weber who moves to Assembly Budget Chair).  Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez was appointed chair of the important Assembly Appropriations Committee (replacing Assemblymember Mike Gatto who moves to chair of the Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee).
