Crunch Time for School Facilities

joedixonOn behalf of the C.A.S.H. Board of Directors, I would like to wish a Happy New Year to our C.A.S.H. family.

In light of the significant changes that the education community has faced and will continue to face, 2014 figures to be an eventful year for the school facilities community.  What role will the state play in funding school facilities going forward?  Will there be a 2014 statewide school bond?  What is happening with the School Facility Program (SFP)?  How will maintenance departments fund their activities under the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP)?  How do districts access and effectively utilize Proposition 39 energy efficiency funds?  These are essential questions for the school facilities community, and they will all be deliberated during this pivotal year. Governor Addresses School Facilities in
January Budget Proposal

On Wednesday, January 8, the Governor’s 2014-15 budget proposal was leaked two days ahead of schedule.  The Governor includes a detailed discussion of his concerns about the current School Facility Program and his policy considerations for a future program, and this statement serves as the basis of discussion for further negotiations.  The Governor continues to prioritize paying down the wall of debt and taking a pragmatic approach to spending.

A webcast of the entire General Membership Meeting will be available on the C.A.S.H. website. 

C.A.S.H. Chair, Joe Dixon, called the meeting to order at 11:05 a.m.  New members and guests were welcomed and introduced.

Joe updated attendees about the Maintenance Management Certification Program.  The Program is now accepting applications for the upcoming session that will begin March 2014.  The cost is $5,000 per participant.  Those interested should contact Cheryl MacKelvie in the C.A.S.H. office at cmackelvie@m-w-h.com.  Joe reminded attendees about the C.A.S.H. workshop on Friday in Ontario.  More information can be found on the C.A.S.H. website at www.cashnet.org.
